Impact if Approved by the Board of Education

Approximately 70 students from the portion of node 242.0 located south of Trawick Road will be reassigned from Durant to Brooks. The travel time for these students will be reduced slightly. A few year-round application nodes will be reassigned to Oak Grove Year-round to consolidate transportation patterns. Approximately 18 current application students may be impacted.

Reasons for Staff Recommendations

Capacity: No change is planned for the eighteen mobile units at Durant for 2008-09. Efforts to limit enrollment at Durant will continue for the next several years and lead to removal of some of the existing mobile classrooms.

Crowding: Crowding will be reduced at Durant through both a reduction in the base area of the school and a reduction in the number of year-round applicants placed in the school.

Healthy Schools: The percentage of students from low-income families will decline slightly from 33% to 28%.

Long Range Planning: Future schools opening in 2009, 2010, and 2011 are not expected to significantly impact the attendance area of this school.
