			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>WCPSS high school career technical education seniors are taking the WorkKeys testing this month, as North Carolina high schools begin to administer new required testing for students this year.</p>
<p>David Wehbie who leads WCPSS Career Technical Education says WorkKeys is part of the state’s new testing accountability requirements. Wehbie says the testing will provide students the chance to earn career readiness certification.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Leesville Road High School has created a scholarship to honor Richard Murphy, the <a href="http://www.wcpss.net/announcements2/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/murphy300.jpg"><img class="alignright size-full wp-image-4239" title="murphy300" src="http://www.wcpss.net/announcements2/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/murphy300.jpg" alt="" width="300" height="367" /></a>school’s first principal.  The fully endowed scholarship will be awarded to two Leesville Road High seniors for the first time this year.  Each recipient will receive a $2,500 scholarship.</p>
<p>The Murphy scholarship will be awarded to a senior who embodies the high expectations and commitment to visionary leadership, service, and lifelong learning that Murphy epitomized and inspired others to achieve.</p>
<p>Dr. Stephen Gainey, the WCPSS Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources, served as an assistant principal under Murphy and later as Leesville’s principal. Gainey said that Murphy’s influence “will forever be present.” </p>

<p>In the last five years, 101 JROTC students graduated from Sanderson High with 81 percent going to college, 13 percent going into careers and six percent enlisting in the military. Students were accepted at colleges and universities such as UNC-Chapel Hill, Duke, NC State, Wake Forest, East Carolina, Stanford and the Air Force Academy. During the five years, these students earned a total of $4.6 million in college scholarships.</p>

<p>New kindergartners, families new or returning to WCPSS, and families who wish to change their pre-assigned school for next year must participate in the online choice selection process.</p>
<p>To assist families in areas of high economic need or low response to previous student assignment tests, WCPSS is offering a number of mobile enrollment events where student assignment staff will provide computers and assistance in helping parents choose.</p>

<p>You will need to register your rising kindergartner prior to participating in the Choice Selection Process. You may register at any nearby elementary school, the Office of Student Assignment or the Center for International Enrollment located in the Central Services Building at 5625 Dillard Drive in Cary.</p>

<p>If you choose to register your child at your nearby school, please contact the school or check their website for enrollment schedules. School staff will have different times set up to receive your forms and walk you through the process.</p>

<p>The deadline for submitting applications to the schools is Friday, January 13.</p>
<p>Wake Leadership Academies offer middle school and high school students the opportunity to participate in a learning environment that is uniquely designed to challenge each girl and boy as individuals. Students are inspired to lead and to learn as they travel a path to academic and personal excellence.</p>
