LISTEN: Wilburn Students Discuss School’s Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

Wilburn Elementary marked the return to its new school facility with a ribbon cutting ceremony featuring students singing and explaining their love for their school.

The students heard Superintendent Tony Tata, board vice chair Keith Sutton and former principal Darryl Fisher. They also met members of the family of long time NC educator Vena Wilburn.

Board vice chair Keith Sutton, Wilburn teacher assistant Nandita Dhulia, Area Superintendent Andre Smith and Superintendent Tony Tata cut the ribbon.


Wilburn students had front row seats at the school’s ribbon cutting ceremony.


Students who won the school’s essay contest on why they loved Wilburn read the essays at the ceremony.


The student chorus was a highlight of the ceremony singing the Wilburn Elementary Rap. (4 minute mp3 file)


Attending the ceremony were family members of long time NC educator Vena Wilburn for who the school is named. Grandson Jim Wilburn is on the left. In the center is Vena Wilburn’s daughter Peggy Johnston with members of her family.
