The Board of Education at its Feb. 7 meeting named Paula Trantham principal of the new Abbotts Creek Elementary, Tammie Sexton principal at the new Richland Creek Elementary, Carl Grant principal at Forest Pines Elementary, Julia Smith principal at Wake Forest Elementary, Christopher McCabe principal at Heritage Middle, Diann Kearney principal at Martin Magnet Middle, Scott Lyons principal at Enloe Magnet High and named seven retired principals to serve as interim principals.
Trantham served as principal of Millbrook Magnet Elementary since 2007. Prior to that, she was the assistant principal at Millbrook Magnet Elementary and a teacher at Centennial Campus Magnet Middle and Apex Elementary. The new Abbotts Creek Elementary will open for 2012-13.
Sexton served as principal at Wakelon Elementary since 2005. Prior to that, she served as principal at Holly Springs Elementary. She was assistant principal at Swift Creek elementary and a teacher at Rand Road Elementary. The new Richland Creek Elementary will open for 2012-13.
Grant served as assistant principal at Brassfield Elementary since 2011. Prior to that, he was assistant principal at Holly Springs Elementary and was a teacher at Cary High and Daniels Middle. He was a teacher at Raleigh Charter High, and at schools in New Hanover County, NC and Hoover, AL.
Smith served as principal at West Lake Elementary since 2009. Prior to that, she was assistant principal at Sycamore Creek Elementary and Durant Road Elementary. She was an assistant principal and teacher in Durham County, NC, and interim principal in Boston, MA.
McCabe served as principal at Forest Pines Elementary since 2007. Prior to that, he was principal at Smith Elementary, assistant principal at Brentwood Elementary, assistant principal intern at Wakefield Elementary and a teacher at Joyner Elementary and Pleasant Union Elementary.
Kearney served as principal of Conn Magnet Elementary since 2003. Prior to that, she was assistant principal at Kingswood Elementary and Sanderson High. She was an assistant principal in Johnston County, NC and a teacher in New Hanover County, NC.
Lyons served as principal at Leesville Road Middle since 2009. Prior to that, he was principal of Ligon Magnet Middle. Earlier, he was an assistant principal, mentor coordinator and teacher at Enloe Magnet High. He was a teacher in Durham County, NC.
The board named retired principals Gerald Pickett interim principal at Conn Magnet Elementary, Teresa Abron interim principal at Fox Road Elementary, Craig Matthews interim principal at Holly Ridge Elementary, Ed Gainor interim principal at Millbrook Magnet Elementary, George Risinger interim principal at North Forest Pines Elementary, Charles Langley interim principal at West Lake Elementary and Thomas Dixon interim principal at Leesville Road High.
The board named as assistant principals Julie Cutler at Davis Drive Elementary, Danielle Clark at Fuquay –Varina Elementary, Richard Pruette at East Cary Middle and Lacey Peckham at Middle Creek High.
