Green Hope High basketball player Kristen Gaffney broke the women’s scoring record for Wake County schools in the NC High School Athletic Association on Wednesday.
Before Wednesday, Gaffney had scored 2,332 career points. She averages over 25 points per game.
In the first quarter of a game Wednesday against Wilson Hunt, the game was stopped when Gaffney scored her 12th point. They took time to honor Gaffney for her record-breaking career point total. Her final tally for the night was 37 points.
Gaffney broke the record of 2,343 points held by former Broughton High player Karen Clayton.
Gaffney can add to her total, since Green Hope has five more regular season games.
