Apex Middle School will have a school wide assembly at 8:30 a.m. on Friday, September 17, to dedicate their Freedom Shrine.
The Freedom Shrine is a collection of the major documents of America’s freedom including the Constitution, the Declaration of Independence and the Bill of Rights. These documents are displayed on an entire wall at our school. The Swift Creek Exchange Club raised the money to purchase and install this Freedom Shrine at Apex Middle School.
The dedication ceremony will be held in conjunction with Constitution Day. It is a federal law that all schools do activities during Constitution Week to celebrate the signing of the Constitution. All week, our school will be having local and state government officials in to do special announcements about the Constitution. The school will also have the band and chorus perform special music as part of its celebration.
On Friday during the assembly, the school will recognize the members of the Swift Creek Exchange Club who helped raise the money for the Freedom Shrine. J.C. Knowles, a member of the exchange club, will be the keynote speaker.
Congressman David Price will also do a Constitution Day announcement and will make some remarks. Congressman Price’s office has donated pocket Constitutions to be given to students during the week.
Other elected officials have indicated they plan to attend.
