Wake County PTA Leadership Empowerment Summit

The Wake PTA Council Emerging Minority Leaders and Male Involvement Summit will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 9. The summit is free and will be held at the Wake County Commons Building located at 4011 Carya Drive in Raleigh.

The keynote speaker for the summit is National PTA President Charles Saylors. Guest speakers include Dudley Flood and Matty Lazo-Chadderton.

This year’s summit offers the following educational tracks:

  • Parent Leadership track: Providing parents of diverse cultures and backgrounds the tools they need to become leaders in PTA and in the school community.
  • Educator and School Administrator track: Preparing teachers and staff to support leadership development among parents of different cultures and equipping them to engage families.
  • Male Involvement track: Educating dads, PTA leaders, educators, and school administrators on the importance of male involvement, the National PTA MORE alliance, and how to begin a male involvement program in each school.

There is free registration at the door, free childcare, and free lunch for participants and their children. The PTA Council describes this as a “no excuses” event designed to engage ethnic minority and male leaders; instill the cultural sensitivity critical to working with ethnic minority families from all over the county, and to ensure that PTA reflects the cultural diversity of the area’s children, communities, and schools.

Please RSVP , especially if you are bringing children, to Kris Ramsundar at kramsund@yahoo. com; or 919-623-2282.
