Teachers meet to discuss classroom instruction

Teachers from four WCPSS elementary schools met on Wednesday at Lake Myra Elementary to take part in discussions about Robert Marzano’s book, Classroom Instruction that Works.

Taking part in the unusual joint session were Lake Myra, North Forest Pines, Wake Forest and Wendell elementary schools. Principals of the four schools have been meeting together and have discussed classroom instruction strategies.

The October 21 session is the first meeting of teachers from the four schools. Another is planned for December 2. Teachers were excited about the discussions and the time together.

Educators met in the media center at Lake Myra Elementary to consider Marzano’s book on classroom instruction strategies.

At the session, each table was given a large sheet of paper and used different methods of defining the word “wiki.” In a similar fashion, students must research, discuss and describe to learn new concepts.

At the session educators were asked to quickly communicate concepts without speaking to illustrate the power that images have in learning concepts.
