Twenty seven students from 11 Wake County Public Schools were recipients of the Mayor's Award from Mr. Bell, Mayor of City of Durham. The awards were presented to the students on October 1st at a special recognition ceremony held at the NC School of Math and Science in Durham.
To qualify for the award, these students completed a minimum of 100 hours of volunteering service during this past summer at institutions that participated in the Mayor's Award volunteering program. Upon completion of their volunteering service, all students received evaluations from their volunteering supervisors for the quality of service they provided. Organizations for which these students volunteered included the Duke Hospital, Durham VA Medical Center, NCSU College of Natural Resources, American Red Cross, Durham Regional Hospital, Raleigh Parks and Recreation, US Environmental Protection Agency, and North Carolina Museum of Life and Science.
