At the May 5 meeting of the Wake County Board of Education, Chair Rosa Gill invited Rod, Barry and Laverne for a reading of the board's resolution honoring their father, Vernon Malone.
Malone served as a state senator and was the first chair of the Wake County Board of Education. Gill presented each of Malone's children with a framed copy of the resolution.
