You may have seen or heard references to WCPSS's "fund balance" in community discussion of the 2007-08 Plan for Student Success. Fund balance is created from excess revenues over expenditures. This can be a combination of collections/revenues being higher than budget and actual expenditures being lower than budget.
We've posted to our online Financial Resource Center an explanation of the different kinds of fund balance and what they can be used for, as well as a discussion of the appropriate amount of fund balance. You can find the PDF here.
