Wilburn Year Round Elementary held its 2nd
International Festival on
October 27. The initiative of holding a festival to embrace and celebrate the diversity at the school was implemented by Salinder Evans, the assistant principal.
"Building a strong relationship between the school, students and parents is essential for school success," said Evans.
The festival embraced the philosophy of family and community with children at the center. Students, parents and staff members shared and celebrated their heritage by creating a Wilburn family tree, wearing traditional clothing representing their ancestral culture, and preparing favorite authentic dishes. There were a number of performances and presentations, and students' artwork and a map of all the countries represented at Wilburn were also on display.
