You won't find the article online, but if you pick up the July/August 2006 Cary Magazine on the stands you'll learn about the WCPSS School-to-Career program, a business/school system partnership dedicated to helping students draw the connection between academic success today and career success tomorrow. Laurie Zuckerman writes:
"We bring the real world to what our students are learning," said Megan Kirkpatrick, business alliance coordinator with the Wake County Public School System. "So when students walk across the stage their senior year, they know what will be their next step. They have a goal and a focus."
The School-to-Career program was initiated by the business community, said Kirkpatrick. "About 12 years ago, some local business leaders came to the superintendent and asked to create a closer relationship, a partnership, so that the kids would come out of school with a much more realistic expectation of the career they are considering," she said.
