The Wake County Public School System awarded diplomas to 6,700 students in 17 ceremonies this year.
Today Education Week Magazine and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation released a special issue of the magazine entitled "Diplomas Count: An Essential Guide to Graduation Policy and Rates." The report makes a number of findings.
The report shows the Wake County Public School System has a graduation rate of 82.2 percent, second highest among the nation's 50 largest school districts.
The Wake County Public School System rate of 82.2 percent compares with a national rate of 69.6 percent and a NC rate of 66.2 percent.

The state will calculate and report graduation rates for North Carolina school districts for the first time this year. These rates will be reported on the Governor's Report Card this fall.
