Congratulations to WCPSS Math Champions!

North Carolina sent two teams to Penn State for this year's 31st Annual American Regions Math League Competition, the "World Series of mathematics competitions." One of them came back as national champions!

Members of the North Carolina teams were selected from across the state based on scores on various math contests they have taken throughout the year. Four of the 15 national championship players came from WCPSS: Vivek Bhattacharya (Enloe tenth-grader), Yakov Berchenko-Kogan (Broughton eleventh-grader), Mikhail Lavrov (Enloe eleventh-grader), and Daniel Vitek (Enloe ninth-grader). All four are likely to return for next year's competition. Can you say, "dynasty"?

Congratulations to the students who represented North Carolina so well, especially the four from Wake County, and to the two team coaches who came from WCPSS: Athens Drive High teachers Kathy Hill and Deanna Lancaster.
