WCPSS Students Play Role in National Summit on Keeping Students Safe

When students from across the U.S. met in Raleigh this month for the National SAVE Summit, two WCPSS students were center stage. Channing Shor of Middle Creek High was a key leader at the summit. Shor has served this year as the Chair of the National SAVE Youth Advisory Board. Fourth-grader Adrian Correa of Adams Elementary was named the 2005-06 National SAVE Student of the Year. Correa is friendly, helpful and courteous to his peers and very active in his SAVE chapter.

Congratulations to Shor and Correa. They were joined by nearly 1,000 students, teachers, law enforcement officers, counselors, and community leaders in the summit titled "SAVE: Erasing the Colors of Violence." They participated in workshops and interactive activities, discussed bullies and put together supplies for schools reopening in areas devastated by Hurricane Katrina. More information about SAVE (Students Against Violence Everywhere) is available at www.nationalsave.org.
