Parent Survey Results

The Department of Evaluation and Research has released the results of this winter's survey of WCPSS parents. Here are a few results:

  • 88 percent of parents gave their school a grade of "A" or "B."

  • 94 percent of parents agreed or strongly agreed that their child's school provides a high-quality educational program.

  • 96 percent of parents agreed that their child's school is a safe place to learn.

From the abstract:

The 2005-06 survey results indicate that a high percentage of parents are satisfied with their child's school. Responses to each question were either similar to or more positive than the 2003-04 parent survey results. Parents of elementary school students responded more favorably than all of WCPSS combined. Although the response rate of 35% was lower than in previous years, the results are largely consistent with past parent survey data. However, due to low response rates at some schools, the survey results should be generalized with caution.

Although the 35 percent response rate -- the percentage of surveys returned out of the total number sent to parents -- was lower than in the past, this year Evaluation and Research attempted to survey all parents in the system rather than using a smaller sample. We therefore received three times the total number of parent responses than we did the last time a survey went out (Spring 2003).
