Ballentine Students Get Their Hearts Racing

Ballentine Elementary students and their parents got their hearts racing yesterday with a visit from Ken Schrader, driver of the #49 Red Baron Pizza/Schwan's Home Service Dodge. The school invited parents to join their children for lunch so they, too, could meet Schrader and get an up close look at his car they typically just see on television.

Families ate Red Baron pizza -- a high-fiber, low sodium, zero trans fats version -- in the cafeteria and then filed outside one class at a time to get Schrader's autograph, pose for photos and, most exciting, touch and look inside his racing car. Smiling, excited children walked away with trading cards, posters and lots to talk about. Schrader presented the principal, assistant principal and cafeteria manager with Red Baron racing jackets.

The NASCAR driver plans a return visit in the spring.
