Fund Descriptions

General Fund

The General Fund is the general operating fund of the Board and is used to account for all financial resources except those required to be accounted for in another fund. The fund includes the Local Current Expense Fund mandated by the North Carolina General Statutes.

Fiduciary Fund Type - Expendable Trust Fund

The Expendable Trust Fund is used to account for the revenues and expenditures of the activity funds of the individual schools.

General Fixed Assets Account Group

The General Fixed Assets Account Group is used to account for all fixed assets of the Board, except those accounted for in the Enterprise Fund.

Capital Projects Fund

The Capital Projects Fund is used to account for financial resources to be used for the acquisition or construction of major capital facilities, other than those financed by the Enterprise Fund.

Proprietary Fund Type - Enterprise Funds

The Enterprise Funds are used to account for the operations of the Board's child nutrition services program, tuition programs, and the print shop.

Special Revenue Funds

The Special Revenue Funds are used to account for the proceeds of specific revenue sources, other than major capital projects or expendable trust funds, that are legally restricted to expenditures for specified purposes. The Special Revenue Funds include:

State Public School Fund

The State Public School Fund is used to account for the current operating expenditures of the Board from monies made available by the State Department of Public Instruction.

Direct Federal Grants Fund

The Direct Federal Grants Fund is used to account for grant monies received directly from the federal government.

State Administered Federal Grants Fund

The State Administered Federal Grants Fund is used to account for federal grant monies administered through the State Department of Public Instruction.
