    Greetings Conn Families

This is Gary Duvall Principal of Conn Magnet Elementary and here are your weekly announcements for the week of February 27th.

School Messenger -  I’m calling to inform you of an important change in how I share whole school information.  Starting on March 12th, Conn will begin sharing general information via text messaging and email instead of an automated phone call. You’ll still receive automated phone calls from me, but I’ll reserve them for urgent situations.

Before we start this process, you will receive an opt-in message on the cell phone we have on record.  I hope you will take a few moments to follow the steps to "Opt-In" to text messages. Or, you can simply opt-in to receive text messages by texting YES to the number 67587 now.

I’ll be sending a letter home next Friday with more information or you can visit  www.wcpss.net/schoolmessenger.

Conn Diversity Workshop - Our P.T.A. would like to invite all interested parents and teachers to a Cultural Diversity Workshop on March, 6th from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. The workshop will be held in Conn’s Media Center. Please note that sign-ups can be turned in on-line though the Conn PTA webpage or at school. Seating is limited so please turn in your forms as soon as possible. More information about this workshop can be found on the Conn PTA website at www.connpta.org

STEM Night - We would like to invite all families to join us for STEM night on Thursday, March 16th from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m.  This will be a fun and informative night to participate in multiple STEM challenges, analyze a crime scene, along with grade level activities which will be available with exciting hands on projects. We hope to see you there.

Jump Rope for Heart - Over the next few weeks, we will be learning about how to take care of our hearts, spreading the message to friends and family, and helping others when we can through the Jump Rope for Heart Charity!   The American Heart Association's goal is to improve the cardiovascular health of all Americans.  They  challenge our students to start living a healthy lifestyle now to prevent problems later; and give them an opportunity to participate in a service learning project that funds the fight against heart disease and stroke. We plan on having a kick-off meeting regarding this initiative on Friday, March 10th. Families will be receiving information next week regarding this initiative but if you any questions regarding Jump Rope for Heart please contact Coach Lyons at 919-856-7637.

You will be able to find this announcement and all following announcements under the Principal Page on the Conn Elementary Website. Thank you so much for your support. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at 919-856-7637. We are looking forward to another wonderful week at Conn Magnet Elementary.

Despierte y Lea (Wake Up and Read)-

    September 19th, 2016

    Greetings Conn Families,

This is Gary Duvall Principal of Conn Magnet Elementary and here are your weekly announcements for the week of Sept 19th.

Transportation - Conn Families we need your assistance in regards to a couple of items concerning morning and afternoon carpool. We would like to remind families that no checkouts will be allowed after 3:30 p.m.  After 3:30 p.m. all students will be required to follow their regular means of transportation home or families will have to wait until 4:15 for checkout. We understand that families have outside appointments but we have noticed an increase number of parents attempting to park and check children out during afternoon dismissal which causes delays in carpool along with increasing the likelihood of an accident. Also as a reminder any student that is brought in after 9:15 a.m. needs to be escorted in by an adult to sign in. We are beginning to see students dropped off before 8:45 a.m.  Our school doors do not open before 8:45 a.m. and students must be supervised by a parent before the school day begins. In addition, no students should be dropped off on Brookside Drive and can only be dropped off in the designated carpool area. Thank you in advance for helping us to keep our students safe.
Doughnuts with Duvall - This invitation is for all Conn families to come for our first Doughnuts with Duvall parent session this Friday, September 23rd at 9:15 a.m in the media center. The main topic will explore how our our school magnet theme is growing and about our school name change. We want to again assure all families that we are not losing any programs to our current magnet theme but expanding what we offer. Ms. Gibson and I will be available to answer any questions regarding any of the information that you have received.

Walk to School Day -  Parents this October 5th Conn Elementary will celebrate National Walk to School Day. Parents and guardians are welcome to park or walk to Temple Baptist Church at 1417 Clifton Street located at the intersection of Clifton and Wake Forest Road. This year Conn is a focus school for the region so we will be joined by several dignitaries, possibly including Raleigh's mayor, Nancy McFarlane. And, of course, Cory the Cougar will be there to cheer us on as we walk with a Raleigh Police Department escort to Conn. The Safe Routes to School program will be providing t-shirts for our students and Temple Baptist will be hosting us with breakfast treats. We especially invite magnet families to take advantage of parking at the church and join us for a walk on this special day. The walk is about a half mile round trip. Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Keep an eye on Friday folders and the Conn Elementary PTA website for more details.
School Directory – Our Conn PTA is in the process of collecting information for a on-line student directory. Many families use the directory to stay connected with one another away from the classroom. This information is used only among the Conn school community and will not be shared with outside parties. If your family is interested in participating please see visit our Conn PTA website located on our site.  www.connpta.org
