Mike Matthews, Principal

I am a graduate of NC State University. (Go Pack!) I began my teaching career at Garner High School and Middle Creek High School.

I’m very passionate about education and work closely with staff and parents to provide our students with a rigorous, engaging, and high-quality elementary school experience. As a parent, I recognize the importance of a strong home-school connection. Parents are every child’s first teacher and I believe that by working together, we can make sure your child’s needs are met.

I believe that MES is a great school!! This is a result of the great staff, we have in place. My primary objective will be to ensure that every student continues receiving high-quality instruction from every teacher at MES. In order to do this, I will be providing teachers with feedback on their instruction, access to professional development, and reaching out to parents for support to ensure our students are prepared for college and 21st century careers to guarantee that all of our students are intellectually challenged and have access to the support critical to students during their elementary school years.

Morrisville Elementary School has been my home since 1999. After teaching at Cumberland County's first year round school for five years as a 4th and 6th grade teacher, I was blessed to join the Morrisville family.  Over the past 17 years at Morrisville,  I have had the honor of being a 4th grade teacher, the Instructional Resource Teacher, and the Assistant Principal.  My entire career has been dedicated to year round education.  I am a teacher at heart.  I have loved and still love teaching.

My favorite thing about Morrisville is how every learner is empowered to know and grow - including me.  I'm inspired by my colleagues, parents, and most of all the students who amaze me everyday.
