  • Special Education Teachers

    We are seeking Highly Qualified Teachers who are fully licensed in the area of Special Education. We have full-time and part-time positions at various schools throughout Wake County in the following areas:

    • Autism
    • Behavior Support
    • Hearing Impaired
    • ID-Moderate
    • ID-Severe
    • Occupational Course of Study
    • Preschool Hearing Impaired
    • Resource Teachers – (Cross Categorical, In Class Resource)
    • Visually Impaired

  • Family and Consumer Sciences Teachers

    Degree

    Bachelor’s degree: General Family and Consumer Sciences

     
    Work Experience Requirements

    We are seeking Highly Qualified Teachers who are fully licensed in the area of Family and Consumer Sciences Education. We will also consider candidates with a degree in a related field for lateral entry into the teaching profession. We have full-time and part-time positions at various middle and high schools throughout Wake County in the following areas:
     
    • General Family and Consumer Sciences (Middle School)
    • Apparel and Textile Production
    • Child Development / Early Childhood Education
    • Foods & Nutrition / Culinary Arts / ProStart
    • Interior Design
    • Personal Finance

    Credentials

    Required before teaching:
     
    • Transcript/Credential must be submitted to NCDPI Licensure 
    • Food safety and sanitation credential or industry coursework required (minimum 12 contact hours) required before teaching foods and culinary courses and courses with foods units.

Health Science Education Critical Needs

We are seeking candidates to teach Health Science Education courses. These courses are a part of the Career and Technical Education program and prepare students who are interested in working in the healthcare industry. There are several routes for obtaining a teaching license in Health Science Education. 

  • Candidates who are Biotechnology professionals

    Teachers who qualify under these requirements may only teach courses in Health Sciences Biotechnology.

    Degree Requirements

    • Bachelor’s degree in biology or in one of the following biology-related 
      degrees: biochemistry, genetics, immunology, microbiology, molecular biology, toxicology, structural biology, cellular biology OR Bachelor’s degree in marine biology, chemistry, pathology, pharmacology, etc.
    • A minimum of six semester hours in the following courses: microbiology, genetics, immunology, biochemistry, molecular biology, cell biology 

    Work Experience Requirements

    • Two years industry-related work experience within past five years 
    • Examples: animal services technician, biomedical equipment technician, laboratory assistant, quality assurance technician, clinical trials research associate, crime scene investigator, genetic counselor, microbiologist, science teacher
  • Candidates who are Allied Health/Medical professionals

    Teachers who qualify under these requirements may teach all Health Occupations courses unless RN is required by affiliating agency.

    Degree Requirements

    • Bachelor’s degree or associate’s degree in non-RN, allied health or medical field from a state or nationally accredited institution is required. 
    • An active North Carolina license, registration, or certification which must be clear of restrictions in same field as educational degree. 
    • Examples: Physical Therapy, Radiology, Medical Doctor (MD), Dental Hygiene, Physician Assistant 

    Work Experience Requirements

    • Two years related work experience within past five years for four year degree 
    • Four years related work experience within past eight years for associate degree 
    • For pay purposes, two years will be held in escrow and released if bachelor’s degree in related area of licensure is completed 
    • Examples of industry-related work experience: physical therapist, radiological technologist, respiratory care/cardiopulmonary technologist, clinical laboratory technologist, dietetics/nutrition technologist, histological technologist, nuclear medicine technologist, phlebotomist, physician assistant, radiation therapy technologist, dental hygienist, physician 

    Credentials

    Active North Carolina license in an Allied Health/Medical Professional. 

    Examples of NON-RN Allied Health Professionals as an Applicant:

    • Health Educator
    • Athletic Trainer
    • Physical Therapist
    • Respiratory Care Practitioner
    • Medical Doctor
    • Emergency Medical Technician/Paramedic
  • Candidates who are Registered Nurses

    Teachers who qualify under these requirements may teach all Health Science Education courses and Nursing Assistant I/Feeding Assistant.

    Degree Requirements

    Bachelor’s degree in Nursing OR Associate’s degree in Nursing OR non-degreed Registered Nurse (diploma graduate) from a state or nationally accredited institution 

    Work Experience Requirements

    • BS Nursing - Two years within past five years 
    • AD Nursing - Four years within past eight years 
    • Diploma Nursing – Five years within past eight year. 
    • Two years work experience for AD Nurse and three years for Diploma Nurse is held in escrow and released for pay purposes if a four year nursing degree is completed 

    Note: Post-secondary teaching experience is considered relevant if clinical observation of students is a job function. 

    Credentials

    An active North Carolina license as a registered nurse; license must be clear of restrictions.
