Mrs. Gail Irvin:

Gail Irvin is one of the Intervention teachers at Penny Road Elementary. This is her tenth year teaching at Penny Road where she has worn many different hats. She has twenty-three years of teaching experience in both Maryland and North Carolina. Gail grew up in the Washington D.C. area. She holds an undergraduate degree from James Madison University and a graduate degree from Florida State University. She enjoys running, hiking, skiing, watching her boys play sports, reading and spending time with family and friends.  She lives close to the school with her husband, two sons and her dog, Sadie.

Mrs. Renee Puckett:  

Renee Puckett is in her 11th year at Penny Road. This is her second year as a full time Intervention Teacher and Instructional Coach, and she is working with 1st and 2nd grade. Renee has previous taught Kindergarten for 9 nine years at Penny Road. She grew up in Central Illinois and graduated from Olivet Nazarene University in 2006 with a Bachelors in Science degree in Elementary Education. Renee and her husband moved to Durham, NC in 2006 so her husband could attend Duke University for graduate school. Renee graduated from Meredith College with a Masters in Reading Education in 2010. In 2011, Renee and her husband added to their family with their son Nolan, who is in Kindergarten this year at Penny Road!  Mrs. Puckett loves watching Duke football and Duke basketball, crafting, reading, and traveling to the Midwest to visit family.

Miss Kira Hamilton- AIG

Kira Hamilton is the Academically Gifted (AIG) teacher at Penny Road Elementary. She works with students to enrich their experiences at school. This is will be her 6th year at Penny Road. Kira graduated from Campbell University in 2007 with a B.S. in Elementary Education and in 2011 with a Masters of Education/Academically Gifted degree. She has 8 years of teaching experience in the 4th and 5th grade classroom and the Academically Gifted program. A fun fact about Kira is that she has lived on three different continents (Europe, S. America, and N. America) due to her father’s job with the NAVY. She enjoys traveling with family and friends, reading, cooking, crafting and spending time outside when she is not at school. Kira lives in Raleigh, NC.

Lisa Grove is in her 12th year at Penny Road. She is the Instructional Resource Teacher as well as an Intervention Teacher, Instructional Coach, Mentor Coordinator, and Testing Coordinator.  She works with all grade levels and is a district trainer for reading as well. She grew up in Hazleton, Pennsylvania (a little coal mining town in the Poconos), graduated from the Pennsylvania State University with a degree in Special Education, and earned her Reading Specialist Certification in 2013.   Mrs. Grove loves reading, watching sports (go Phillies, Patriots, Panthers, and PSU!), and traveling to the Caribbean and Europe.   She lives in Cary with her husband, Josh and niece, Alexandra.

This is Mandy’s first year at Penny Road. Originally from Boone, she attended Appalachian State University (Go Mountaineers!). This is where she met her husband, Chris. They live in Cary and have a daughter and 2 sons. The Patterson family likes to stay busy with various activities including Cub Scouts (Pack 202), softball, or cheering on the Mountaineers and the Tar Heels. Mandy has been an active volunteer in Wake County Schools for the last 9 years. Mandy was honored, in 2012, at the White House as a Champion of Change for her volunteer work. She has a passion for working with children and helping them grow as learners and people.
