At Durant Road Middle School, it is our mission to develop productive citizens in an evolving global community; it is for this reason that we are launching our Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) initiative. Our students have never known a world without the Internet. They are truly digital natives. It is our responsibility to ensure that they become responsible digital citizens. Therefore we must teach them to use technology efficiently and effectively so they can become positive future leaders and independent learners for life outside the classroom. By supplementing our equipment with student devices, we will connect our students with each other and the global community. Through careful planning, communication, feedback, and evaluation, we will vastly expand our students’ access to the resources that will allow them to collaborate effectively, creatively, and critically.
Currently, our BYOD leadership team is working with WCPSS Instructional Technology and Media Services Department to plan the implementation of this initiative. During the Fall of 2015, staff will be trained on common procedures as well as effective research-based teaching strategies. On Wednesday, December 2nd at 7:00-8:15, we will be hosting a parent town hall meeting which will be accessible in person and online. At this event, we will review how teachers will use this initiative in order to better differentiate instruction for students and answer any questions. We are excited to bring this opportunity for 21st learning to our students!
