• The Physical Education program at Hunter GT / AIG Magnet Elementary
is taught through electives and PE specials classes.  Every student will have physical education as a special throughout the year.  In addition, students can choose to take physical education electives throughout the year.
    • Special classes focus on overall knowledge of healthy activities, movements, games and social interaction.
    • Electives range from broad topics such as team sports to specific subjects like gymnastics and track. Electives meet four times a week and often include field trips to enhance the learning experience.
The Physical Education program also has quarterly whole school activities.
    • Fall - Hunter Olympics - Each grade level comes down to the track for a competition between classes in a variety of individual and team events.  This is also used to help choose the track team.
    • Winter - Dance In - The Physical Education department teams with the dance teacher to teach each grade level a number of dances in the gym.
    • Dance In Spring - Jump In - Teaming up with Jump Rope for Heart, each grade level comes to the gym for 40 minutes of jumping rope.
    • End of the year - Field Day - Each class rotates through a variety of stations as we cap off a fantastic school year.

    Hunter Track

The Hunter Eagle Track Team is an elective course for 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders offered 3rd and 4th quarters.  Students train and learn the basics of track and field and participate in a variety of activities both in and out of school.  The elective culminates with an 8 school track meet (for 3rd, 4th and 5th grade) held at Meredith College's track!

Students must try out for the Track team if they wish to participate.  The tryouts are a 2 step process.

Step 1:  During the 1st quarter, students can try out in the P.E. specials in the following events: 100m, 200m, 400m, and softball throw.  If they win in their class, they will move on to the second phase of tryouts.

Step 2:  The Hunter Olympics. In late October/ early November, each grade level has their Hunter Olympics where their class competes against the other classes in their grade.  During this competition, the winners of each class in the 100m, 200, 400m, and Softball Throw will compete against each other to find out who is the best in the grade.  The winners from each event will make the track team.  In addition, the Coaches will select 2 "Coach's Picks" from those who did not win but perform very well at the Olympics.  Selections are made by December 15th.
