Hours of Operation:

Regular Day Program: 8 AM - 2:30 PM Daily
Extended Day Program: 3:15 PM - 7:15 PM Monday-Thursday

Process for Acceptance:

Student is referred by the base school, parents, courts, or self. An application form is completed and acceptance is determined by the staff following screening of the application and student.


Parent Participation:

An active PTA, parent conferences, screening process and educational planning


Description:

Phillips High School is a small public high school with a curriculum focusing on essential skills in a supportive, student-centered environment. It is one of the 14 public high schools and one of four optional schools in the Wake County Public School System.


Student Body:

Students enrolled in the Wake County Public School System, grades 9-12, may apply for admission to Phillips High School. Those accepted have an academic, social, an/or personal need for the personalized, flexible program offered at Phillips.


Course Offerings

Phillips offers the required Wake County Public School System courses in English, mathematics, science, and social studies. Vocational classes are offered in business education and word processing, home economics, principles of technology, and distributive/cooperative training. Music, art, driver's education, and Communities in Schools programs are available for credit also.

Support Services

Phillips High School has a full-time Principal, Lead Teacher, Counselor, IEC/Career Counselor, Social Worker, Communities in Schools Coordinator, Media Specialist, Technology Coordinator, Day Care Center, and Special Programs Resource Teacher to support the instructional staff. A school nurse serves the students weekly, with other community resource specialist available on call.


Other Services


Enrollment Procedures

  1. Interested students contact the counselor at the base school to discuss interest in transferring to Phillips.
  2. Base school counselor sends a referral form to the counselor at Phillips recommending the transfer.
  3. Upon receipt of the referral form, an interview is scheduled at Phillips.
  4. The interview/assessment includes the student, a parent/guardian or other interested adult, and a staff person from Phillips.
  5. Attendance at the base school is continued until notification of acceptance and enrollment date at Phillips is received by the student.
  6. Upon acceptance, withdrawal from the base school includes obtaining the standard withdrawal form with current grades, attendance information, and teachers' signatures.
  7. Enrollment at Phillips requires an early arrival on the first day and the completed base school withdrawal form.
  8. The enrollment process is complete. Student is welcomed to Phillips High School.
