Moore Square Museums Magnet Middle School is founded on the principle that children learn naturally in environments that support guided exploration and discovery, encourage meaningful apprenticeships and projects, and foster interaction among peers and mentors.

Scheduled to open in the fall of 2002, Moore Square Museums Magnet Middle School will embark on a dynamic partnership with area museums. This unique learning environment allows students to use the museum's collections and exhibitions as a springboard for exploration and engaged study in all areas of students' curricula.

The curriculum introduces students to the stimulating world of museum environments and the wealth of their culture, history, sciences, and arts. The instructional program offers opportunities to learn through interaction with exhibits and performances. Student experiences will include meaningful work behind the scenes with museum staff, technicians, archivists, researchers, and other experts. Educational outreach will extend to parents and members of the community.

Additionally, the staff will use the Paideia approach to teaching, engaging students in Socratic Seminars and guiding them through coached projects. The school will operate on a modified calendar to facilitate staff planning and student enrichment activities.
