The International Baccalaureate Programmes (IB) aim to assist schools in developing the unique talents and abilities of all students by teaching them to connect the experiences of the classroom to their world. The IB Programmes emphasize academic challenges, international understanding, community service, and mental and physical well-being. At each level the curriculum framework is appropriate to the needs, abilities, and age of the students. The IB educational philosophy embraces the best methods, strategies, and techniques to enable all students to meet their potential.
The Middle Years Programme (MYP) includes students in grades six through ten. Housed at East Millbrook and Daniels Middle Schools, along with the ninth and tenth grades at Broughton, this program incorporates five areas of interaction into the core courses taught. These five areas are approaches to learning, community service, health and social education, environment, and homo faber, (man the maker). Included in the course of study are a foreign language, arts, and technology, as well as English, Social Studies, Science, Mathematics, and Physical Education. During the fifth year of the MYP, students complete a personal project, which demonstrates initiative, organization, and creativity.
Another major feature of East Millbrook's program is its emphasis on integrating the arts within all subject areas. East Millbrook has become a school in which students gain critical opportunities for intellectual and individual growth essential for successful middle school programs.
