Gifted & Talented
The Gifted and Talented (GT) magnet program is based on the belief that every child has gifts and talents that need to be valued and nurtured. There are no tests, auditions, or performance standards for acceptance into a gifted and talented school.

The program promotes choice for students and parents. Students can explore a wide variety of learning experiences through core and elective courses which develop individual strengths and interests. Students who are academically gifted, who have learning disabilities, or who have other unique needs work with special teachers as part of their elective classes. The child, the teacher, and the parent work collaboratively to customize the student's educational program.
Kindergarten through second grade students spend the majority of their day with a teacher and an assistant in one classroom receiving basic instruction in language arts, math, science, and social studies. In the elective portion of the day students take from four to eight electives each year. Elective courses cover all curricular areas - from computer science to theater arts to math. Third through fifth grade students have a wide range of electives and take as many as twelve per year. Offerings include such courses as architectural design, theater production, comparative mythology, and gymnastics.
Students with outstanding strengths in one or more areas may take AG selected elective courses. This group includes (but is not limited to) state-identified academically gifted students. AG selected elective courses extend beyond traditional curriculum areas such as reading and math to include such areas as art, music, dance, drama, science, social studies, foreign language, and instructional technology.
Academically gifted students are served through the elective program with special courses offered under the guidance of teachers certified in gifted education. Two of the GT schools, Fuller and Hunter, include the academically gifted (AG) basics program for AG identified fourth and fifth graders.
AG Basics Program
The AG Basics Program is offered at Fuller and Hunter Elementary Schools and Carnage and Ligon Middle Schools. Students participating in the AG Basics Program must qualify for Differentiated Services in Gifted Education. The students in the program are grouped with other AG identified students for instruction in language arts and mathematics as well as science and social studies. Enloe High School provides a continuation of this program through advanced courses and electives.
