Application Process (2003-2004)
The dates on this page apply to the 2003-2004 school year.
Magnet applications for the 2003-2004 school year must be postmarked/time-stamped between February 8-19, 2003 for all grades; magnet assignments will be completed and sent out by April 23, 2003; and kindergarten registration begins February 6, 2003.
To Apply to a Magnet School
There are no special performance standards or test scores required for admission. (Admission to the AG Basics program is the exception: please refer to the AG description). K-12 tuition students are not eligible for the magnet program.
New Students
Read the available information, explore options, and choose a magnet program.
Complete an application. Enclose sibling applications in the same envelope.
Mail to the Student Assignment address on the application, postmarked between the dates of February 8-19, or submit an application electronically so that it is time-stamped between the dates of February 8-19. Applications postmarked/time-stamped before February 8 or after February 19 will be considered as late applications.
Hard copies of the application will be available in all WCPSS schools, central office building and the Magnet Resource Center on January 27, 2003. Please complete either a paper application or an electronic one; do not complete both. Once entered online/mailed, applications will not be modified.
Current Magnet Students
Current magnet students do not need to apply in order to remain in their magnet school. However, magnet students in the fifth and eighth grades must apply for middle and high school magnet programs.
Kindergarten Registration
Register your child entering kindergarten at your base school in addition to applying for a magnet school. Kindergarten registration begins February 6, 2003. Call your base school for enrollment information.
If Your Child is Accepted
You will be notified of acceptance (or denial) no later than April 23, 2003. If accepted, you will have the opportunity to accept or decline the offer. (Please do not call the Office of Growth Management for assignment information unless you have not received notification by April 23, 2003.)Criteria for Acceptance of Students

Not Considered
- Hand-delivered applications
- Faxed or incomplete applications
- Additional information or extenuating circumstances
- Requests for specific schools (Applications are for programs. School assignment is based on the home address.)
Special Year-Round Notes
Once enrolled in a year-round school, students may not change tracks during the first year.
