• School Profile

Heritage Middle operates on the year-round calendar. Students at the year-round schools are divided into four groups, called tracks, with each track having its own calendar. In a year-round school, the number of required school days is divided into nine-week quarters with a three week break at the end of each quarter. You have to think of the year in twelve-week parcels which include nine weeks of instruction and three weeks of vacation. That vacation period varies based upon the track.

Schedules are staggered so that, at any given time, three tracks are in school and one is on break.  These staggered schedules make it possible for the school to serve a larger student population.

Year-round schools provide a more continuous learning process. Students and teachers find that the more frequent breaks require less review than is typical after a summer vacation.  Likewise, the more frequent breaks help students and staff stay more energized and focused.
  • Principal's Message

Welcome to Heritage Middle School – Home of the Patriots!

    Principal Chris McCabe

We are a multi-track year-round school serving approximately 1,275 students in the Wake Forest area.

The number one thing that we pride ourselves on is establishing and building strong relationships with our students and their families. We strive to love and serve our school community each day.

At HMS, our mission statement is focuses on the 4C's: Communication, Collaboration, Critical Thinking and Creativity. These 4 words drive what we do with and for kids each day. The primary focus of our current School improvement Plan is to seamlessly integrate literacy strategies and higher level thinking skills into all classrooms on a regular basis.

Our school’s PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention Support) program has been recognized at the highest level in the state and serves as a guiding light when management decisions are made. The focus is on recognizing the good things students are doing and making sure that expectations are clearly taught and reinforced. This helps provide a clear structure where our students are free to be themselves and focus their attention on learning.

I invite you to explore our website to find out more about who we are and how we make a positive difference in the lives of students each day. I also invite you to come visit us, walk our halls and see for yourself what it means to be a Patriot! You can contact our student services department at 919-562-6204, Extension 22562, to schedule a tour.
