- 102 traditional calendar schools (58 elementary, 19 middle, 21 high schools, 4 alternative schools
- Three schools changed calendars: Leesville Road Middle changed to multi-track year-round; Baucom and Knightdale Elementary changed to traditional calendar

Students

- 137,706 students on the 20th day of school for 2008-09
- 40,000 students expected in year round schools
- 30,000 students in school July 7 with three tracks in and one on break
Transportation
- 900 buses
- Expected 75,000 student riders

- Traditional calendar routes will be updated in early August.
- Kindergartners and first graders who ride the bus will be given name tags for the first 20 days of school. Schools will place name tags on students before boarding the afternoon bus. Tags will include student name, school name and phone number, bus route number and bus stop location. Parents are encouraged to teach children to know their home address, phone number and bus route name. Help prepare children for the new experience of riding the bus to school.
- The Wake County Public School System provides bus transportation to all base students in the system who live one-and-a-half miles or more from school and to students with identified special needs. The system's transportation department is committed to providing these students with safe, efficient and reliable transportation service that contributes to their overall academic success.
Early Dismissal Wednesdays
- Board of Education approved schedule changes for 2009-10 school year
- Bell schedules change adding 10 minutes of instructional time to Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday

- Schools dismiss one hour early on Wednesdays
- Teachers will meet on Wednesdays in professional learning teams to review student work and discuss individual student learning needs
