High Schools Schedule 2008 Freshman Camps
June 30, 2008 - WCPSS high schools are offering freshman camps to help ninth graders begin their journey as the Class of 2012.
While the camps serve some of the same purposes of orientation sessions held in the past, high school faculties have focused on relationship and team building exercises that are part of the school system's efforts to personalize high school for students.
Each high school has developed its own camp to help personalize school for each student, helping them to make the connections with faculty and staff to achieve their personal best.
Camps began as early as July 9. Many will be held in August. Many of the schools have set up webpages with information about their camps.
Several of the schools will hold parent sessions. For example, Broughton High holds a parent camp August 21 at 8:15 a.m. or 7 p.m. for 90 minutes. Southeast Raleigh High will include morning sessions for parents on July 9 and 10 at 8 a.m. At Enloe, parent camps are 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. during each day of their Eagle Flight School. Sanderson High will hold orientation July 22 to 24 with students and parents meeting together initially. Sanderson sessions are 8:15 a.m. to 1 p.m. At Athens Drive High, parent sessions will be held for the first hour of each day of Freshmen Academy and parents and students can register online at www.athensdrive.com. Millbrook High will hold its C.A.T.S. Camp on August 6 and August 7 with students sessions beginning at 8:30 and an informative 30-minute parent session at 11 a.m. each day.
